The motivator of Twenty Ten is the World Cup Football in 2010 in South-Africa, officially named ‘2010 FIFA World Cup’. For the first time in history, the WC Football will take place on the African continent.
The project Twenty Ten enables African journalists to speak out at a time when the entire worlds attention is focused on the (preparations of) the World Cup Football. Twenty Ten wants to give Africa the chance to show the world a different side: one that represents a continent rich in talents, ambitions and possibilities.
Twenty Ten selects 152 professional journalists deriving from all African countries: writing journalists, press photographers, radio reporters, multimedia producers and (youth-) television reporters. During the African preliminaries of the ‘2010 FIFA World Cup’ they will be trained. Afterwards they will be given the possibility to continue producing and distributing stories about any subject related to the World Cup. A selection of participants (the ‘Dream Team’) will eventually leave in three teams for South Africa to cover the final tournament.
Free Voice and World Press Photo are organizations operating internationally on the improvement of journalism. In this project they collaborate with the following parties:
* Africa Media Online; responsible for distribution, sales and marketing of all reporting done by the participants in Africa and beyond.
* Lokaalmondiaal; creates online multimedia products, administers the www.roadto2010.net website, produces a documentary and compiles a book about African football.
